After back-to-back shutouts against the Buffalo Sabres this past weekend, the Philadelphia Flyers received more good news Monday. According to the Flyers, Travis Konecny returned to the ice after missing time on the Covid protocol list. Although he is going to Pittsburgh with the team, he remains a game-time decision for tomorrow’s contest against the Penguins.
Philadelphia will be pleased to get Travis Konecny back. However, he’s been far from an effective player since his hat trick against the Penguins in game two of the season. With eight total points in twelve games, he’s failed to get on the board in five-straight.
March looks to be a busy month for the Flyers, kicking things off with three straight against the rival Penguins. Yes, they looked like a brand new team over the weekend, but one cannot ignore the quality of the opponent. Buffalo is one of the bottom-feeders in the NHL with no signs of a turnaround.
It’s no secret Philadelphia needs Konecny to get back to his 2019-20 regular-season self. They are a better team when he is firing on all cylinders. The reality is Tuesday might be too soon for his return. Travis Konecny has been out since the Flyers shut things down after the Super Bowl Sunday game against Washington. Thursday looks like the more feasible date for his return.
