Flyeround 1/31: Gostisbehere, the Blueline, and a Few New Series’

Welcome back to the Flyeround! After missing last week because I was too lazy to type it up, we’re back in a big way. We have new writers, and with that new articles and ideas. Check out the latest here at Pod Street Bullies and catch up on what you might have missed over the last week with this week’s Flyeround.

The Flyers swept their two games against the New Jersey Devils earlier this week. Read all about it from our guy Matt Hoagland and new writer John Scola.

Player Pieces

We have a couple of pieces here dealing with players on the Flyers. First comes Claude Giroux. Our guy John S., now that we have multiple John’s, gave us a player spotlight piece showcasing Giroux’s career to this point. Check it out right here.

The second player-centric piece comes from Derrik who details Shayne Gostisbehere’s road to redemption. After a few stints last season where he looked good and it quickly faded, Derrik takes a look at whether Ghost can stick and how bad the Flyers need that to happen right now.

Trade Pieces

Another couple of pieces, this time centering around trades and trade speculation. The first piece comes from Hoagie, as he details some targets on the blueline that the Flyers should look at if they’re looking to improve the defensive unit.

The second piece takes a look at the Pierre Luc-Dubois/Patrik Laine trade. The Flyers had been rumored to be in on both players at one time or another, and neither came to fruition. Derrik tells us all why it’s a good thing the Flyers didn’t acquire either of the promising young forwards.

Continuing/Starting the Series

We’ve got four pieces to touch on here, so buckle up. The first piece is a new one on here, but no stranger to the Pod Street brand. We’re talking the Pod Street Pop-Off folks! Derrik and John have taken their podcast segment and turned it into a weekly article, this week bringing Hoagie into the fold. Check out what was grinding their gears this week, and check out the inaugural piece right here.

In a new series, John and Eamon exchange emails over the course of a week and have a discussion about one topic. This week, the defense is the hot topic of discussion so John and Eamon exchange a few emails about how the Flyers can fix the problem on the blueline.

It’s mail time! The Pod Street Post is open for business, and John tackles the first piece, answering all your questions. Check it out below!

That’s it for the Flyeround this week. I’ll do a better job at not being lazy and typing one up next week. Until then, enjoy the games ahead and keep checking in with us here at Pod Street Bullies for the latest in news and all-around quality pieces surrounding your Philadelphia Flyers!
