Fabian Lysell is a Swedish winger who is considered a top prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft. He started his draft year campaign with Frölunda HC of the J20 Nationell in Sweden. In 11 games played, Lysell scored three goals and notched 10 assists for 13 points. Lysell has played with the Frolunda organization since the 2017-18 season, dating back to their U16 team. As he continued to move up in the organization, he dominated point-wise and has scored multiple goals-per-game as an underage player. Lysell has also made a strong impression at the international level.

This summer, Lysell was drafted by the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League in the 2020 CHL Import Draft. However, he will likely stay in put Sweden.

This past December, he recently moved to Luleå HF of the SHL and has since recorded two goals in nine games. With the J20 Nationell being shut-down for the rest of the season, it will be interesting to see how much ice time Lysell ends up with.

Lysell is a dynamic winger who knows how to control the pace of play on the ice. When watching him play, he brings all-around quickness to his game. He is an excellent skater with strong agility and edgework, plus buzzing stick-handling abilities. At high-speeds, Lysell is electric and hard to stop. His puck-production will continue to improve once he starts gaining more strength throughout this season, but he does well to drive the net and battle hard in the corners. While Lysell has excellent scoring instincts, although his shot needs to get stronger, he can serve as a dual-threat attack, as he also has elite playmaking capabilities. He has the expertise to create plays off the rush with both his scoring touch and passing abilities.

Lysell continues to improve on his defensive game. He needs to get stronger overall, but intelligence wise, he is very responsible in the defensive zone.

The Flyers need to continue to get better at is gaining more speed through their transition play up ice. Drafting a speedy, creative, offensive forward like Lysell would be a game-changer for the Flyers.

“A dynamic winger with great speed, Lysell is known for his electric stickhandling and ability to take over a shift whenever it calls for it.” The Hockey News

“Highly skilled forward with impressive technical skills and an amazing release. Scores a lot of goals and is a loyal team player.” Anders Eriksén
